Four decades ago, Chucho Valdés revolutionized Cuba’s musical landscape at the head of his jazz outfit Irakere, whose work sounds strikingly modern to this day. At age 74, the Cuban pianist is off on a new adventure with a fresh line-up of young musicians quite innocent of Irakere’s early triumphs.
